The Rolling Stones - Live Licks

Rock
Live Licks

Well, for starters, a diehard Stones fan will tell you that you simply cannot have enough of Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie. But, more than that, for those of us around the world who missed out on the Rolling Stones Licks tour of 2002 and 2003, listening to this double disc brings some of the live magic right into your lounge (or car or wherever your chosen listening location is).

High on energy and impeccably produced (with The Glimmer Twins and Don Was in the production seat), Live Licks reveals a fabulously eclectic tracklisting that will satisfy just about everyone.

Disc one is devoted to the hits that have ensured the Rolling Stones have remained a rock ‘n Roll favourite and vital for close on forty years (I kid you not - the oldest track on the first disc is “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” which was penned in 1965!). “Brown Sugar”, “Paint It, Black”, “Angie”, “Gimme Shelter” - they are all here to entertain and remind us why The Stones are the real deal.

But it’s on the second CD that things turn interesting.

Songs emerge from their seventies guise to become energy-infested beasts that remain relevant today – we’re talking the likes of “Rocks Off”, “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” and more. Others are covers but work as well – in particular, the pared down version of “That’s How Strong My Love Is” as well as “Rock Me, Baby” (co-written by BB King). And yet others just sparkle with a beauty that is unique to the Stones -“Beast of Burden” is one, along with “You Don’t Have To Mean It”.
