The festival was established in 1984 with 40 groups competing. The annual festival now draws over 10,000 competitors with qualifying rounds taking place in all provinces.
It showcases the best indigenous traditional performance groups in South Africa and celebrates the country’s rich and diverse culture and heritage.
Zindlala Zombili: 'Live At The State Theatre' features highlights of the groups that participated in the annual pan-African festival that took place over seven days at the State Theatre in Tshwane during December 2009.
Zindlala Zombili: 'Live At The State Theatre' features vibrant and dynamic performances by the top 28 groups that excelled at the festival. It includes music and dance from all indigenous nations, as well as a guest group from Swaziland, all representing the cream of indigenous traditional music and dance in Southern Africa.
The DVD was filmed in high definition (HD) and was able to capture the many bright and brilliant costumes and ethnic colours of the various groups that performed. Zindlala Zombili: 'Live At The State Theatre' is now released for the fi rst time on DVD, at a special low price.
It also carries the official 2010 FIFA World Cup branding, as this DVD release is part of Sony Music’s overall music offering for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
