The Blake Roberts Band
The Blake Roberts Band is the eventual fruition of a long time sidelined vision that developed over several years of inconspicuous bedroom jams. Always playing second fiddle to his drumming endeavors for Durban's former funk act The Kiff, Blake's modest guitar sessions quietly gained in stature from the privacy of his home.
With the eventual dissolution of The Kiff, Blake's solo career was able to move to the foreground. Using the thesis for his graphic design degree as a launching platform, and ably supported by some talented session musicians, Blake set about giving his vision a public voice.
Since the successful online release of the single, "The best is yet to come" last year, The Blake Roberts band has been working tirelessly behind the scenes on their debut full-length album. Driven by a warm acoustic groove, accompanied by smooth bass lines and intricate guitar riffs, the band swings both sides of the pop rock scale, from jazz through to melodic rock - offering a rich and diverse tapestry of sounds.
Backed up by strong dynamic vocals, The Blake Roberts Band offers a solid, well-crafted mix of sincere delicacy and intense passion.
Having made their first large crowd public appearance in 2010, the band has already enjoyed some success, making the final of the playoffs for the Mr Price Pro which subsequently lead to them playing at the Pro Beach Festival, Fifa Fan Park for the World Cup & opening for the legendary Guy Buttery.
The band recently released their debut album "21 Restless Grams" earlier in march 2011 to 400 key Durban press & media contacts. The first single off the album "Stockholm Syndrome" has already been playlisted on East Coast Radio and looks set to find it's way onto other stations nationwide. Subsequently the music video for the same track has just been playlisted on MK TV and One Small Seed TV. This is the new SA talent to look out for.
